according to the NHS birth to 5 book:

*you should avoid whole nuts before kids are one because of risk of choking.

*if you have a family history of nut allergies, dont give you dc certain nut produce til they're three.

RIGHT. so why do people just assume that babies cant have nuts at all?? i have heard a reasonable amount of people (inc SIL and MIL) talk as if nuts cause nut allergies, which makes me fume.

i thought there was a connection between peanuts and asthma, but cant find anything in the nhs books.

Not sure which came first - the peanut allergy or asthma....

I have a severe peanut allergy. epipen in tow. Also have asthma. These allergies aparently are connected.

DD has asthma, and I'm not giving her nuts until she is tested first.

Am fairly sure though that one can give nuts to children without any history of allergies. But would give one type at a time to ensure there weren't any adverse reactions...

I don't claim to know it all but I do have a nut allergy & there isn't a history of nut allergies in my family.

I used to eat nuts as a child but not peanuts as I didn't like them and I had asthma from about 5. I didn't develop my allergy until I was about 8 and I'm now allergic to all nuts.

My doctor told me a child can't digest nuts properly until they are 13yrs old so as long as they only have them very occasionally they shouldn't develop an allergy. Although they shouldn't be restricted completely as this will apparently increase the chances of an allergy developing.

Hope that helps although I may have confused you more

whole nuts should be avoided till the age of 5. If there is no history of allergy then nut products are ok from 6 months. Dd had peanut butter from around 1 year and ds had it from 9 months.
