dd (she's 7 months) was really enjoying feeding herself, but the past week at mealtimes she's been making the horrible dog whining noise that generally means she's frustrated. She has a bf about 30-45 mins before her meals so she shouldn't be feeling starving hungry so I don't think that's the problem. She does struggle to pick some stuff up but I always make sure there are some tried and tested things like a chunk of roasted sweet potato on the tray too.
So bad yesterday that I ended up defrosting a puree I'd made ages ago and tried to feed her it. Needless to say she turned her head firmly away and wouldn't open her mouth.
We are still awaiting the first tooth so it might be teething pain that bothers her more at mealtimes?

It is quitre likely teeth; Bas is 8 months next week and has been teething badly (came through 2 days ago). He also reacts like that when teething.

Have yu tried a dose of calpol just before the last pre-dinner bf?

tried calpol after bf and about 20 mins before dinner yesterday but maybe that wasn't long enough for it to kick in

I would give it just a bit earlier

also those granules you can get for teething seem to have amazing calming effects immediately; boots do them and most chemists / supermarkets
