Penne

Tonight's the first night I've really given DS, 9 months, penne with "s"heesy tomato sauce - we're on a no dairy kick. He's loving it but based on the Dolmio thread he's going to be all sugared up - I'll know better for next time. Question is, he's not really chewing the penne much - he's chewing the tubes in half or quarters lengthwise and then I'm pretty sure he's swallowing them whole - sort of like a junior sword-swallower. Is there any way I can encourage him to chew more?

are you spoonfeeding or is he eating with his fingers?

We're doing both - at each meal I try to have at least 1 thing he feeds himself. The penne was all him shoveling it in by himself.

oh right. Sorry I won't be much help then! I was just going to say my DD does better with Penne if she picks it up herself but if you are already doing that then I don't know what to suggest!

My DD doesn't chew penne either (she's 17 months). I only found out because she was once sick and it had whole penne quills in it
I didn't think it was a problem though.
