Over-developed gag reflex

My ds is nearly 10 mths and is terrible about eating anything thick or lumpy. He starts gagging and more often than not throws up. Then of course I feel bad and go back to more pureed food but I can't see him ever being able to eat normal food! He has 6 teeth so can chew a bit and eats toast, rice cakes, carrot sticks etc but hates lumps. Help!

If he's eating finger food ok then I'd stick to that for a bit. It's probably the texture of the lumpy food that's the problem, it's neither one thing or the other, like eating lumpy mash or porridge.
Have you read anything about baby led weaning? It explains how babies are better off putting the food in their mouths themselves. Even though your baby is older there's lots of relevant info here
