even after two weeks of trying, lovely 6 mo keeps mouth clamped shut at sight of a spoon - any advice?

Finger food.

put food on his/her tray, let them pick up/play/taste at their speed. keep an eye on them, obviously, but (if possible) don't hover - you don't want to give them performance anxiety!

Put food on their tray (preferably whatever you are eating) that they can pick up and leave them to it.

give her time. my son has suddenly discovered his food a week ago- and he's 9 months old.

i thought it would never happen as he did exactly the same thing - he'd choke, make himself sick, clamp mouth shut, push my hand away etc... very stressful.

she'll get there. its still very early days, so dont worry (like i did!!!)

Does he/she hold a spoon/put it their mouth if you give it to them?

If yes, then you can slip your spoon in when they are chewing on their spoon.

Try finger food and if your baby still isn't interested then leave it for a bit.

They aren't all ready for it at 6 months on the dot.

DD2 didn't start eating until she was 12 months. We kept casually offering but she wasn't ready. She eats normally now.

It took my dd almost 4 weeks to open her mouth. She would open it for finger food first and now will open her mouth for a spoon if she can help to hold it.

Just keep persevering - she will get the hang of it eventually.
