BLW - 6 months and can't sit

My ebf dd will be 6 months in a couple of days and can't yet sit unaided. I don't think she's far off but I've been thinking that for weeks now and she still hasn't managed .....

Should i wait until she can really sit to start blw or doesn't it matter?
What age do babies generally start to sit?

It varies a lot between babies at what age they can sit. My dd was able to sit unaided from about 5 months but I have friends whose babies were a lot later. I think you have to look at other signs to see if your baby is ready to start weaning for example is she showing interest in food, is she able to pick an item up and put it to her mouth, does she seem more hungry, I personally think by 6 months you should start weaning your baby even if it is just a very small amount of pureed fruit and veg just so they can start to get used to the different flavours and textures. In my experience mums that hold off till later have more problems and babies can get a bit reluctant to wanting to wean but that is just from what I have seen. Good luck!

Can she sit well aided?

When you say unaided (and sorry if this is a really dim question - dont all jump on me) do you mean she cant sit in a high chair (basic Ikea type) or she cant sit on the floor without toppling forward or to the side?

I think if she can sit upright in a high chair then she's fine.

not so dim at all .... I mean she can't sit on the floor without toppling. Actually I haven't tried sitting her in a highchair because I assumed she had to be able to sit on the floor first. Have no clue why I assumed that so I guess I should try.

(She can sit well aided though .... if I just hold her a bit)

have you got a bumbo? you can get trays for them now, ace for blw..

My DS was premature and he started BLW at about 28 weeks (after 2 weeks of puree before I realised he'd be able to do it).

I think others are right and it is 'sitting well supported' rather than completely unaided.

HTH

By the way, he didn't sit unaided until 9 months plus, and by then he was eating a varied BLW diet.

Ok so I guess she's sitting well enough then. And if sitting can take such a long time I don't really want to wait until 9 months so I'll try putting her in the chair soon.
Thanks
