Is it ok for her to eat this much?

My 6 month old seems to really like her food. She eats at breakfast, lunch and dinner with me ( since starting solids she wants to eat when I do). She also has 5 bottles of between 6 and 8 oz per day.
All the other babies I know who are starting solids seem to only want a tiny amount and spit half of it out whereas mine eats everything. I don't want to deny her food if she wants it but am a little concerned about over feeding

I have exactly the same worries... My DD doesn't seem to have the "stop" switch and can eat loads... She's just stopped her night feed this week though so is now on 4x 7oz bottles plus breakfast, lunch and dinner... The only meal she doesn't take much at is Breakfast. At the other 2 she will eat about 100g of puree mixed with 2oz of milk thickened up with baby rice! Sometimes she still wants more!

My ds was similar. He was bf so don't know how much milk he actually had, but would swallow bowl fulls of various mush. He still (@nearly 5) eats a phenominal amount for someone his size but is bang on weight for height.
FWIW IMO if you let your bub eat til she's full, and don't force her to eat more or berate her for eating too little/much she will learn to eat til she's full, not until the plate is empty, and that's a healthy attitude.

Wow, you must always be feeding!!
Did you cut out milk as she started having solids?
I'd just keep an eye on her weight, you'll soon see if something needs to be altered and act then?
Ds was on 3 solid meals a day within a week and by 7.5months was only having milk to go to bed. Maybe I stopped milk too quick, but isn't it funny how different they all are!

Glad to here I'm not the only one! Am determined not to do the clear plate stuff as DH and I had enough of that as children - It's like feeding a baby bird, mouth open and lurching towards spoon.
Becky77,She seems to like a thicker texture than thin puree as well.Out to prove the baby books/HV wrong on the spoonfull of baby rice to start with!

Littleboyblue - she was on 6 8oz bottles so has dropped one! But yes it's bottle time or food time condtantly at the moment. She is very active and on the 91st centile so isuppose she needs a fair bit!
Seems to enjoy all the endless feeding anyway, grins when put in her highchair

Sweet.
Feeding was the only main concern I had at the start as well coz ds was so big (98th). I didn't want to overfeed but was paranoid about not giving enough too. Like your lo, I think ds would eat whatever was infront of him and when he's full, would be sick and start again! He had bad reflux so was always hard to tell if he was sick coz of over eating or coz he was going to anyway.

Becky77 · 17/11/2008 11:52

My DD grabs the thumb and my little finger on the hand with the spoon in and shoves it into her mouth... this is how I know I'm not overfeeding her!

I guess you can't win, it's worrying if they eat loads & the same if they won't eat enough. Nice to get some reassurance though
