Loss of tongue thrust - how do you tell?

This may be a stupid question. I keep reading that loss of tongue thrust is a sign of readiness for weaning but how do you know if this has happened? DD used to roll her tongue out when she was hungry but now chews on her hand instead and never sticks out her tongue. Is this it?

If you put anything on a spoon in her mouth she willl just spit it out.

Thank you. Is there any way of testing this without actually giving her some food on a spoon?

QueenFee, it sounds like my ds4. I had given him some puree over the last couple of weeks but yesterday he grabbed a slice of pizza and sucked the cheese off! It wasn't homemade pizza though.
