Cradle cap and cow's milk

DS is 7.5 mo and has suddenly got cradle cap for the first time. He's also quite snuffly which I put down to a cold but now realise it's been two weeks now...

I've just given myself a fright reading Kellymom where it says no cheese before 9 months (tho confusingly suggests it as a first finger food elsewhere).

I do offer cheese most days actually - either cheddar, or cream cheese on those organix rice cakes or mixed in with avocado.

Now worried I have laden him with something he shouldn't be having for at least another 6 weeks + that it has caused scales and snot.

I've reread the UNCIEF guide but it's not clear (to me!) either about exactly when is ok.

heating could be drying his skin.

I wouldn't worry about it.
I still get eczema every winter - the cold air and the central heating really dries out the skin.

Thanks very much for your ideas.

It occurs to me that DS has never been in danger of - ahem - having his hair OVER washed .

But I've been a bit more rigourous of late, what with the flying banana etc. Am using an organic shampoo so thought it would be mild but I'll trying sticking to water and see what happens.

What is it that is worryig you. Cradle cap has no long term medical worries attached. Dentonox shampoo and boots cradle cap cream did for my DS. Why the concern about cheese ?

No prob with cheese unless the baby has known allergies ...no baby is going to want to take huge quantities of cheese anyway. Can't think what the connection would be with cradle cap - all cradle cap is extra grease on the scalp that sticks to itself and forms plaques in the hair and on the scalp. I don't think there's a suggestion that it's an allergy or reaction to anything, at least not as far as I know. Ditto a snuffly cold - babies get colds

If he likes cheese, then none of that would mean he shouldn't have it - but see what your HV says .

Shooflypie · 10/11/2008 15:04

Ah. Feverish googling had led me to believe that cradle cap was linked to eczema.
Thank you so much for the reassurance!

My HV gave me a stern talking to for not having DS on 3 meals a day at 6.5 mo. Then followed up by sending me the unicef weaning guidelines which is exactly what we are doing . But I will see what she says, yes.
