Hi,
I'm trying to explain to my German friends what 'baby led weaning' is, and to find some German literature on it to try to convince them! Anyone know how to translate it?
Thanks

As far as I have been able to work out, it doesn't exist here! Nobody has ever heard of it and I could not find any literature. Figures really, I mean .... what would Hipp do if we all did BLW?!

Please post back if you find out what it is - I would love to know.

Oh, actually, thinking about it .... I suppose you could say something like "baby kontrolliert" or "babyorientierte" Abstillen. I just did a quick search on Wikipedia in Germany and I really can't find it on there. I have been joking with DH for the last few months that they have never heard of it here, but actually they really haven't!! Oh dear. LOL

Thanks Gabster and will let you know if I find out more.
German mother in law coming over soon and of course there'll be loads of questions over why I am not making 'Breichen'(purees!)

know what you mean. My mum started hassling me when DS was 8wks - "when are you going to start?" "don't leave it too long or you will have problems" "give him pureed potatoe - he will love it". Had really refluxy baby so that really piled on the pressure then "oh, he can't cope with milk. Just put him straight onto solids - he will be so much happier". Grrrrr.

Don't worry mind, most Germans I have meet are so into nature and eco-friendly that I reckon if you can explain the ethos behind it (can your DH act as translator?) I reckon she will be happy enough. And I would be very surprised if she puts it down to anything like "can't be bothered to prepare it". NOBODY but nobody makes baby food in Germany (that I have found anyway).

Good luck

In the Netherlands it's known as the Rapley Methode (method). Maybe they use a similar name?

Hi!
This seems to be an old discussion, but if someone still needs information in German about BLW there seems to be a new forum about it. Just found it myself:
