I know this is probably a silly question but as a new mummy im not very sure! DS is 20wks and he has started to "play" with his tongue and making chewing motions. Does this mean he is getting ready to wean or just that he has found new muscles!! he has been slightly more girney the past few days but supopse it could be teeth? any advice would be great!

DS used to watch us eating from very early on. Unsure about the "playing" with his tongue though.............
Maybe check other signs for weaning like, waking during the night, not satisfied after milk. These were sighs that DS gave.
Weaned around 4 - 4 half mths with no probs.

The guidance is six months - once they get to that stage they start nicking food anyway whether or not you intentionally start weaning.

LOL!! he isn't waking at night, of course now i say that..... !! still sometimes doesn't take full bottle, so i guess he's not ready just yet!! cheers

Signs are sitting unaided, losing tongue thrust reflex, willingness to chew, pincer grip and wanting to participate in meals. Also you can tell they are ready for solids if you put food in front of them and they can pick it up and eat it without assistance. Best 6 months or after. Just a note, a lot of babies start waking up around 4 months and this is not always a sign they need solids. DD did this, started solids at 6 months and still doesn't sleep through at 14 months!
