Sterilising (or not sterilising)

Ds is 26 weeks and am thinking of giving him some solid food. Should I sterilise? What should I sterilise?

I don't really use anti-bac sprays and I don't own a steriliser. I was planning on digging out a high chair, giving the tray a good wash and wipe (soap and hot water) and, erm, just giving him some food. Pear or banana or something. Probably give his hands a wipe first too (the dog licks them when she thinks I'm not looking).

Would that be dreadful? Do I need to kick up a gear?

I am no expert but the main point about sterilising bottles is that milk can breed bacteria.

So what you suggest sounds OK to me!

Sounds about right!

I'll be doing exactly the same as you when the time comes!

Never sterilised anything-good hot water wash should be enough, they are getting all sorts of bacteria anyway when pootling about, messing with food etc, basic food hygiene is all you need.

Me too. DD2 puts everything in her mouth, including DD1's fingers (can't sterilise those). Top shelf of dishwasher (if you have one) is supposed to be as good as a steriliser. Have fun!

Oh good.

I'm sure I arsed about sterilising little plastic spoons and a 'magic mat' when I did this with dd 2 years ago.

And me....older and wiser now. Also, don't have the time!
