6 mth old not interested in food - finger food or purees

I've just started weaning my 26 wk old (started a week early, desperate as she's waking 5 times a night, so shoot me) and I can't get her to actually swallow anything. We're doing a mixture of blw and purees as the one time I did manage to get her to eat some baby rice she slept a 3 hour stretch for the first time in 3 months but if I give her finger food she just flings it on the floor and purees she just spits out. Is this normal? I'm in a bit of a panic as I'm going back to work soon and she won't take a bottle so I really need her to be well established on solids by the time she's at nursery.

absolutely normal

she should set the pace

keep offering finger food (even if it goes on the floor) and do not force anything on her else food will become a battle before you've even started

the sleep was a coincidence so stop thinking about it

re going back to work - IMO you'd do better helping her get used to ebm or formula in a cup or beaker than rushing her into solids before she's ready. DD was 10m before I'd have said she was 'well established' on solids.

Don't worry, she's only just started - it'll take a while for her to adjust.

You could try baby rice mixed with apple/pear to introduce her to food other than just the rice, then she might move on naturally to other tastes and finger food.

Maybe she is not as desperate to eat food as you are for her to eat it!

There is no rush, she will not eat anything more than a teaspoon when she does eat.

Just offer something really bland, baby rice and a touch of fruit or something similar, and do not stress at all if she refuses. Just offer it again the same time next day.

Before you know if, she will be throwing food around and you will wish she was not quite so interested in finger food!!! Good luck.

My Dd is similar. She is almost 26 weeks and I have been doing it for a week now. She refuses to open her mouth (although she did suck on a slice of mango this morning).

I will be interested to see the responses.

(sunshine - try finger food. Some babies prefer to be in control than be spooned at, even at this age)
