tell me about jars - aren't we supposed to avoid giving LOs sugar?

I've been looking at jars as thought they might be useful occasionally when travelling or out and about. Usually I make my dd's food (doing a mixture of purees and BLW/finger foods).
The jars I've looked at though seemed to all contain sugar. Am I missing something or aren't we supposed to avoid giving LOs sugar?
This is probably a really stupid question but never mind...

the fruit purees will have natural sugars in them so not much you can do about that. Some of the dessert ones have added sugar and I just avoided them. If you are doing BLW then why not take a banana - can be both finger food and fed from a spoon if you mash it.

As far as I understand it (and it took me a while to work this out!) we're told to avoid adding sugar because that could encourage a sweet tooth and then they might refuse savoury foods. So it's not like adding salt, which is actively bad for them and hence a complete no-no, it's just that adding sugar can hinder their acceptance of a wide-ranging diet. Hence companies can get away with adding it. Also added sugar can of course be bad for their teeth once they get them - then the natural sugars in fruit can also do that anyway, but additional sugar would obviously be even worse.

I've looked at the labels and found that the Ellas Kitchen and Plum Baby products seems to be just the basic ingredients rather than having added stuff like sugar, so I'd personally choose those over Hipp, Cow & Gate etc.

I see, thanks HQ. I've only given my dd the Ella's kitchen and Plum Baby so far, but they are rather pricey aren't they...
the latest thing though is that she is refusing most purees anyway so may have to go to complete BLW in any case!
