A mate of mine is after websites and information about why not to wean at 4 months.

I am not wanting to start a debate particularly, though of course post whatever you want!

I am just after websites that have info on why it might not be a good plan to wean at four months.

I have suggested Kellymom's page and VictorianSqualor's blog (Ta for recent link VS!)

Other thoughts?

TIA

Mumsnet!!!

Seriously, if you google for information about why you should wait, MN comes up pretty high on the results page.

S1ur · 05/10/2008 14:07

I know I know, but I think she was hoping for external websites with evidence and such.

TBH I have NO idea why people go anywhere other than mumsnet.

I think I will just send those two in email then unless this last bump brings up any other suggestions.

Thanks for answering AA

I have been looking for actual explanantions on the internet over the last few days and its surprisingly hard. Lots of the research findings seem to be in online journals that you need to subscribe to.

The Netmums weaning board has a fantastic sticky on why you should wait, that explains all the risks very well.

scorpio1 · 05/10/2008 14:22

you could tell her how much of a PITA pureeing is!

S1ur · 05/10/2008 14:38

Oh yes, netmums I didn't even think to look! doh!

will step over to the other side now to go and peek.

just don't show her this thread especially the 4th one down from BarneysMum!

Ityped in "why not to wean at 4 months" in a google search and just got a load of crap about people weaning early - not much advice on why NOT to wean early, but plenty of people who did.

lulumama · 05/10/2008 14:51

unbelievable parents still putting rice and rusk in the bottle

it is so dangerous , not just re choking, but a risk of overloading a baby;s kidneys

bottles are for milk only

AnarchyAunt · 05/10/2008 14:55

WRT the link - I don't get why, when the reasons are actually posted, everyone ignores them and carries on saying 'you know whats best for your baby'.

Its like people don't want to know, or don't believe it, or think its not applicable to their big/small/hungry/advanced baby.

RedOnHerHead · 05/10/2008 14:57

AA - what is WRT ?

It always seems to come down to "Hungry baby syndrome"

S1ur · 05/10/2008 15:00

Well, tbh I think their advice was similar to bounty et al, the obligitory best to wait, follwed by signs to look out for inc, 'interested in food'

And oh yes that thread is disconcerting Red - the 'big babies need babyrice' argument.

Netmums has a very good explanation here. I originally got the link to the page off mumsnet though.

HTH

AnarchyAunt · 05/10/2008 16:08

I mean the link happycamper posted - 'tis very detailed explanation!

S1ur · 05/10/2008 17:01

Ah cheers, I didn't find that before I just found their page about it.
