Is Dd ready?

Was going to hold off a bit longer but Dd (23 weeks) grabbed my banana this morning and sucked it. I let her have a few goes of sucking it and she really seemed to enjoy it. Now I feel a bit guilty - should I have taken it straight off her? Is she ready now do you think?

I think only you can decide what you're comfortable with - you know your child, you know the research.

sunshine - I started weaning my DS at 22-23 weeks, despite having planned to wait until 26 weeks. However I didn't do it just because he put food in his mouth once. He had several weeks of increased day feeds as well as night feeds, was developing very good grasping skills and then started sitting unaided. It was those few weeks of changes together that made me decide to do it, and he started finger foods alongside purees so I was able to see that he could break off food and move it around his mouth and swallow it. So I wouldn't necessarily start just because she happened to have some banana, but have a think about what other signs you have been getting as well and make your decision based on an accumulation of things rather than one incident IYSWIM.

She can sit up, has lost the reflex thingy, is interested in food but isn't feeding any more than usual (once that bloody growth spurt ended anyway).

Think I'll wait another week and see if she grabs anthing else. She had been grabbing galaxy for a few weeks but obviously I didn't let her suck on that - god I wouldn't share my galaxy with anyone

glad to see your dd is going for the tasty things i did the whole waiting and watching thing - wanted to check things were a pattern rather than a one-off or yet another growth spurt - so i think that is a good plan

I weaned at 23 weeks as my ds nicked some of my toast. He loved it and he was ready. He was taking over 50 oz of milk a day as he was so big and consequently always had wind from drinking so much. He has been much happier since and is fine so far. I think you've done well to hold out til now. Most people I know still wean around 4 months dispite all the research and current weaning advice.
