Do you know anyone in real life who has held off weaning until 6 months?

I don't. Are the guidelines a load of twaddle then?

I waited until 6 months and I put that mainly down to information received from Mumsnet but not one of my friends have done the same. All their DC were on 3 meals a day by 5/6 months.

Sorry, but can that not just be coincidence? My DD1 was weaned around 4 months and the only thing she seems to be allergic to is peace and quiet!! Maybe it just depends on the bambino...?

Cwtch - You are right to be annoyed with your inlaws trying to feed your child behind you back! That's bloody terrible - it is up to you and you're the mum!

As for Gravy - I know, my MIL mentioned this as well that she feed my DH and his siblings on this with bread dipped in it when they were very young babies - They obviously didn't know about the salt content!!

Dh sneaked in banana 2 weeks early with ds1

DD1 and ds1 were both weaned at 3 months (guidelines then)

DS2 was weaned at 4 or 6 months (can't remember, i thought it was 6 months but have seen on here the age was changed after this date so may have been 4?)-especially so as he had kidney complications and didn't want any other work for kidneys to do at an earlier age.

All the rest were 6 months, or a week before.

DD1 and ds2 now 15 and 13.....no allergies, will eat anything, so far so good, fingers crossed they won't have problems.

when were the guidelines 3 months? i thought the lowest they have ever been was 4 months?

I waited until 6 months but I'm the only person I know who has done so.

I waited till 6 month with DD1 but now DD2 is 4.5 months and BF every 2 hours day and night [totally knackered emoticon] AM tempted to start but really want to hold off.

I did with 3 of mine. I weaned ds1 earlier in line with the guidelines back then. He is 17 now and i can't remember what they were. Was it weaning at 3 months??

Was a nightmare anyway. Months of trying to shovel in mush and him spitting it back out.

Much easier with the other 3.

I waited til 6 months as did at least half of my friends - one gave solids v early (about 3-4 months) and her baby had such a bad reaction that it put everyone else off - very bad constipation and allergic rashes.

I think I would have waited until 6 months anyway as I am the kind of person who frets if I am not following guidelines, but my friend's experience certainly underlined the value of waiting for me...
