give him a frozen banana to chew on, far better for sore gums

designerbaby · 22/07/2008 19:37

FWIW whenever I have icecream in my DD's presence I always give her a wee bit... doesn't seem fair not to

A tiny bit isn't going to do them any harm IMHO...

p.s. DD prefers Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie - thats why I have to buy it...

lilymolly · 22/07/2008 19:38

yes its fine as long as its just a little bit!

beansprout · 22/07/2008 19:38

I wouldn't.

moocowme · 22/07/2008 20:06

yes i did the same thing and DS is absolutely fine. and yes the icecream helped the gum pain.

HaventSleptForAYear · 22/07/2008 20:18

I did.

With DS2.

DS1 was carefully protected from anything resembling dessert, sweets, ice-cream etc.

Now won't eat cake etc. Like me.

DS2 is a big "gourmand" (nice way of saying loves his food/greedy guts)

HaventSleptForAYear · 22/07/2008 20:18

BTW - NOT for gum pain but just as a taste of mine.

Didn't try to justify it with medicinal use

Tinkjon · 26/07/2008 12:18

If you're worried about it then make your own - that is perfectly fine for babies, in fact I think could even be regarded as healthy! Just full-fat dairy and bananas (bananas don't need sugar if really ripe) - what could be better baby food?!

belgo · 26/07/2008 12:23

Babies this age mostly don't like eating cold things - my children were 18 months or more before they liked ice cream.

Tinkjon · 26/07/2008 13:25

Although my 10.5mo DS has just wolfed down a homemade fruit-juice lolly!

ThatBigGermanPrison · 26/07/2008 13:27

I gave mine frozen chips to chew.

Frozen banana would be better.

NoBiggy · 26/07/2008 13:28

I had some lovely banana ice cream, turned out to be just frozen bananas put through a juicer (a powerful one, admittedly).

solo · 26/07/2008 13:29

Ice lolly.

princessglitter · 26/07/2008 13:33

plain yogurt with chopped up fruit makes a lovely ice lolly. Annabel Karmel does some baby sized lolly moulds; I got mine from Boots.

paolosgirl · 26/07/2008 13:37

DS1 was protected from the evils of sugar and all nice things for over 2 years. DD for about 18 months. DS2? He's already had ice cream, and he's 15 months! A little bit of everything will no them no harm.

charitas · 27/07/2008 10:09

I have lovely recipe for frozen greek yorghurt and pureed apricots, v lucsh never tried it on a baby though(piglet still off too tender an age for food0

Brunocat · 28/07/2008 16:57

I must be very bad mummy - 11 month old son has just waten half a Cadbury's white chocolate Dream. He loved it. I can't eat an ice cream without him getting very excited and trying to grab it off me. Must admit I don't normally let him eat as much as half though, normally more like a quater.
