Help me solve my 7m BLW baby's constipation?

DD2, 7 months, BLW for a month now. Thinks food is the best thing EVER.

She is BF, feeding normally. Sips of water with meals. Eating the usual stuff, ie the more baby friendly bits of whatever we're having. So, fruit & veg, rice, bits of toast, porridge, yoghurt, cheese, meat and fish. No tomatoes, citrus or strawberries as yet as DD1 reacted badly to them at this age (that was skin though, so not the same).

The constipation is not terrible but obviously uncomfortable. She goes red in the face to produce a rabbit pellet. Pre solids she was reliably producing the usual soft yellow stools, now its hardish and usually greenish. It also seems to be disturbing her sleep, which is a worry. She's pretty fretful too which is unusual for her.

Is this usual because I don't remember it with DD1? Any obvious culprits I can try cutting out of her diet? I don't want to just cut right back because she's enjoying it so much, but I would like to solve it..

Any help most gratefully appreciated.

I think bananas slow things down and things like dried apricots stewed or pears help them go. I would suggest a splash of fresh orange in her water but you said no citrus, think this helps ds so maybe when she's older you can try that.HTH

Ooh didnt know that re bananas, brilliant thanks will try cutting that out.

Shes only had toast a couple of times, that wouldn't do it would it?

bananas always bunged DD up

apricots and prunes definitely help

watery foods like melon can help

auntymandy · 08/07/2008 21:23

gp told me banans bung em ip a bit too!
try to give more fluids. remember what she passes will change now on solids. if teally concerned go to gp.

My DD has been constipated ever since starting on solids - she's on Lactulose from the GP - works like a dream, isn't absorbed so no side-effects. Good stuff IMHO and worth thinking about if home remedies don't help (they didn't for DD - tried everything).

DD is miserable without it... free and easy with it
