BLWers: What about chunks breaking off?

DS is 7 months and BLW. He loves his food and TBH I am wondering if he eats a little too much (already cutting noticably down on BM).

Recently I have had a scare several times: He will munch on something and then a big piece brakes off and he has it completely in his mouth: e.g. piece of cucumber, piece of tomato (here i am worried about the skin), bread rind, piece of carrot.
It tends to be just the size that would be difficult to dislodge if he should get it in his throat. He does gag occasionally.

Do I do something wrong? Shall i remove all skins to reduce this risc?

Thanks for your advice!

Have just started BLW as baby now 6 months.

Have noticed if he gets a broken off piece he tends to gag and spit it out.

my babies made a big production out of gagging at that age - but 'i never had to intervene, so they were obviously in control.

My hv said to stay in the room, and keep calm if they do gag, and make encouraging 'whoops a daisy' type noises.

If you're nervous - give steamed carrot or raw grated for e.g. for now.

I always left the skin on fruit and tomatoes and just gave DD quarters - she would suck the flesh off leaving the skin perfectly intact and then drop it on the floor .

i worried about this with DD and finger foods i gave her - but while she has gagged quite a few times, she has always brought whatever it was back up quite proficiently

she learnt to chew her feed quite quickly as a result

i never intervened, based on what i'd read here - is she can feed herself and sit upright, she;ll be able to cough up anything that breaks off

she now only gags very very occasionally, and we're only just a month in

oh, and i keep skins on - she likes to suck on fruit and the skin srays in one piece (she is still totthless)
