ds is doing really well with food, started a couple of weeks ago, loves carrot, sweet potato, apple, pear, cheese, bread, spag bol and starting to like chicken and fish. he has a good bowl of baby porridge on a morning, good bowl of food and yoghurt for lunch, decent bowl of food and fruit puree for tea. he has been breast feed alongside this until last week and he now bf at night but drinks formula from cup during day (would never take a bottle).does this sound about right, i know every baby is different, but cant seem to find any guidleines on too much or too little. he's 18lb8oz

Sounds fine to me. For the first year food is really for fun and not for nutrition, they don't eat enough generally to make it worthwhile from a nutritional point of view. But sounds like your DS is wolfing stuff down.

My DD is 6 months and she has a meal (sometimes home made and sometimes a jar) and a yoghurt for dinner and a meal and friut puree for tea. She is on formula and has 3 8ounce bottles a day too

My DD used to frighten me by eating a KILOGRAM of solids every day (that's 1000g of food) from about 7 months, until she was about 11 months - then she cut back. She's really really tall for her age (over 100% on the boy's chart) and just kept opening her mouth for food whenever there was a spoon around.
I kept track as I had made pureéd food for her and had frozen it in 100g containers - she would eat 300g fresh fruit - nectarines, bananas and stewed apple, then peas 100g parsnip 100g, (or carrots, squash, beans etc) and then 400g pureéd creamy chicken and leak casserole / fish pie etc, and 100g porridge for brekky. Scary - I used to stand well back when giving her the last 100g of food as I was convinced she'd pop. She also had 2X 300g bottles formula before her nap and at night. She'd have a breastfeed in the morning (till 9 months when she self weaned). She was and still is a stoker.

My DH can eat and eat also - about 4000 to 5000 calories plus a day, he's 11 and a half stone - 6 foot 1. never puts on an inch.

Hopefully DD has his genes in this regard - I look at a cake and I'm a size bigger: even think about a cake and I can put pressure on a zip I'm 5 foot 2.

I think so long as your LO is sleeping a reasonable amount(!), and is gaining weight and height well, there's no set amount that he needs. My DD had and has wooden legs like her dad, your DS sounds like he's growing and will be tall?
