Potato - batch cooking - what to add

Hello. Got a bag of potato yesterday, as I want to encourage my DD to eat it as she hasnt been too keen on it so far. So going to do some batch cooking and freeze for DD.

I will use alot of it just in ice cubes but I always like to make some "ready to go meal pots" with stuff that I can just grab out of the freezer when I am going out, and it will be a full meal for DD.

ANYWAY, was hoping to steal some ideas? And to ask if the following are ok?

  • Is it ok to add breastmilk to potato and or meals and then freeze?
  • Would it be ok to freeze potato and cheese mixed?
  • What about potato and some plain mince (cooked)?
  • Freezing potato and tinned baked beans (blended?

Any other ideas?

Yes to all your questions although I personally would avoid the baked beans.

Try steaming/baking some fish (trout, salmon or anything really) and flake it into mash - then freeze - for an easy fish pie. Add fresh, not frozen cottage cheese to the mash once defrosted.

Potato and courgette - lovely combination and very seasonal

That gave me an idea to use tuna, but wont bother freezing that as its in small tins anyway. I am assuming tuna is ok at 6months?

Tuna is ok at 6 months afaik but can be very high in salt if tinned. I would personally buy it in spring water and not give it too frequently. It has the advantage that you can use the rest in sandwiches or whatever for you/rest of family.

Great, thanks

Just to add - one of DD (few) favourite things is mash with cheese sauce and another veg (eg. broccoli, courgette etc.).

You can make a batch of cheese sauce and freeze that in potions too, separately.

I make the mash with lots of unsalted butter and full cream milk and pass it through a sieve to make sure there are no lumps.

DO NOT BLEND though. Turns it to glue for some reason...
