When did you stop using formula and just give water/juice/cow's milk?

DS has had water with meals since he was weaned. We stopped with formula and went on to cows milk at a year. He is 13mo and has milk first thing and last thing, water with meals and snacks. No juice or anything - don't see the need, he just has water and is happy with that.

12 months with my 2 and am planning to do the same this time round.

I don't think you can give cows milk as a drink before 12 months but can add it to their food, (mashed poato etc, )

someone will be here to correct me if i'm wrong

I stopped giving DD1 formula at the recommended 1.
DD2, gave her formula for her bedtime milk until she was around 2, but ordinary (or organic when available) in cereal and the rest of the time. DD3, 16m, gets formula at bedtime when I can be bothered to make it; otherwise normal milk.
My reason for giving them formula after 1 year is we don't eat meat, and I know formula has iron added, so I can be sure they're getting some every day.

12 months

Just after 12 months.

I was a bit wimpy about it tbh, was worried DS wasn't eating enough to cover the loss of calories from formula when he quite blatantly was

DS refused formula at 6 months. not recomended but he point blankly refuses to drink any formula. not recomended but what else could i do. he loves cows milk and he eats very well so just have to go with the flow as i can't force him to drink it even if i offer nothing else.

DD had cows milk and weetabix every morning from 6 months (after formula) and changed completely to cows milk at 11 months.

zephyrcat · 26/06/2008 11:07

Thanks everyone I am sure that ds went onto cow's milk from 10 months. DDs 1&2 were early as well I'm sure as none of them had a bottle by 12 months. I'm just wondering if everyone is strict with the 1 year rule for stopping formula or if I'm a bad Mummy!!

11 months for formula - thats only because we went on holiday and couldnt be bothered taking formula away with us. DD had been having cows milk with weetabix and mash from 6months.
