Baked beans?

Hi there, DD 9 months, I was eating Heinz Baked Beans for my lunch today and gave her a taster and she devoured the few that I gave her. Would it be OK to give her some as a meal with some toast soldiers, I am just concerned about the added sugar and salt in them, is she still too young for them? THanks

You can buy baked beans without lots of sugar etc in them if you look in supermarkets. I dont think shes too young myself, and theres lots of goodness in beans. (but watch out for the farts!)

Total yucky. Why would you give her that kind of food to a 9 month old?

Would you cook a roast chicken and add a lump of sugar to it?

Mind you I am a snob when it comes to food!

Nothing wrong with baked beans - they even count towards your 5 a day so cant be that bad. You could use the reduced salt/sugar ones too if you felt they were too salty/sweet.

Thanks for all your comments, I'll have a look at the reduced salt/sugar ones next time I am at the supermarket.

From what age is it OK to give a BLW baby beans? I imagine them to be a choking hazard.

Seona1973 · 25/06/2008 12:51

beans are quite soft and squashy so they shouldnt pose much of a hazard.

whole earth organic baked beans {44p from ASDA) very very nice ! was thinking about trying them with my 6 and half month dd - blw - think it may be bit messy (but funny to watch)!!!!

My DD LOVES baked beads. She has them about once a week and thinks they are a huge treat.

I make them "healthier" by rinsing off most of the sauce. Sure this must be where most of the sugar and salt lie... She doesn't seem to mind and they make less mess too!
