Ok ok, im a slattern, but we have been giving DS (6.5mnths) puree jar rubbish (well hipp organic) and he's doing my head in with it!

I want him to BLW the way DD2 did, but i remember NOTHING on how to get started!

Someone PLEASE give me step by step instructions!

Tonights tea for example is steak, roast pots, cauli cheese, brocolli and gravy.

Can he eat any of that without choking?

brocolli is a great BLW food! He can hold a floret by the stalk and chew on it. I would cut up the steak and potatoes into very small pieces that he can pick up and eat.

Seona1973 · 21/06/2008 12:27

you could try a bit of everything except the gravy I would have thought - just chop it up a bit first.

AitchNunsnet · 21/06/2008 12:28

'course he can, you dope.
all of it, ime, but seen as it's his first shot ever i'd start with the broccoli and see how he goes.

DanJARMouse · 21/06/2008 12:29

so i just chuck whatever we are having at him? minus anything salty etc

was it really as simple as that? am i totally stoooopid?!

it's really that simple, you amnesiac fool. www.babyledweaning.com

g'luck!

mamamamama · 21/06/2008 12:33

Exactly - just let him pick it up and see what he fancies. IME the 'skins' on roasties can be a bit difficult but the insides go down well.

DanJARMouse · 21/06/2008 12:52

GUESS WHAT!

He just had some bread and cheese! proper cheddar cheese!

we just had hotdogs for lunch and i thought what the hell..... made a mess but i think some went in!

am a bit excited about this now - will make my life SOOOOO much easier!

OP posts:
belgo · 21/06/2008 12:54

yes easier and cheaper

DanJARMouse · 22/06/2008 19:14

well he has had great fun making a wonderful mess!

faves seem to be banana (what a gross mess that makes!) and bread..... the 2 mixed together is revolting!

He also was chomping on chicken earlier!

So cool you had fun Well done.

RGPargy · 23/06/2008 21:40

Hello Jarm!

I have also started DD on the puree stuff, home made tho, i hasten to add!

However i always want to do BLW so having FINALLY got a highchair, i fed DD today with her usual veg puree for lunch and then gave her a bit of banana mashed up on a plate and she loved it! She hasn't got the hang of picking things up with the pincer grip yet (think that comes later?) but she just plapped her hand in the banana and then shoved her hand in her mouth. I videod it on my phone and it was great to see that she actually KNEW she was feeding herself.

It was brilliant and i intend to do alot more of it!

MrsJamin · 24/06/2008 10:37

Am I being thick, why did you mash up the banana, doesn't it make it more difficult to pick up?

RGPargy · 24/06/2008 10:39

Erm.... coz i thought that's what you were meant to do?? Plus she has no teeth so cant bit bits off. I think i was a bit scared of her choking lol.

RGPargy · 24/06/2008 10:40

*bite bits off.

MrsJamin · 24/06/2008 10:48

Oh, I haven't started BLW yet (next week!) so I only know what I've read and babies seem to be able to 'gum' things quite well, i.e. like biting. that www.babyledweaning.com website everyone refers to is really helpful and will give you ideas on how to present foods in a BLW style. It's got a bit on choking v gagging as well which should put your mind at rest. Until your LO does have the pincer grip she will be able to take a chip-shaped piece of food in her grasp and gum the end until some of it comes off in her mouth, and she should be able to swallow it ok.

EffiePerine · 24/06/2008 10:55

Banana is nice and soft so she will happily gum it (and less mess).

DanJARMouse · 24/06/2008 10:58

dont mash it up!

I have let daniel have all sorts now. He has had strawberries, pears, bananas, toast, rolls, and last night he had tagliatelle (sp?) in cheese and brocolli sauce!

Ok so he seems to make more mess than eating, but it is going down!

Thanx MrsJ, i've looked at the BLW website before and just joined the forum. Shall i point out the picture of the baby eating mashed up banana??

I wont mash it up in future.

Jarm - you seem to be doing really well in the few days you've been BLW!!!
