Getting DS to hold his own bottle

Don't know where to post this so here goes.

DS is nearly nine months and refuses to hold his own bottle. Most of his friends of a similar age (some much younger) seem happy to do this.

I am trying to encourage him to put his hands on his bottle while he drinks and if he takes them off then I take the bottle out of his mouth till he puts his hands back on, but have been doing this for a month now and getting no where.

Is is too early? Advice please.

My 10mo won't hold a proper bottle either.
Are you using Avent bottles coz you can buy andes for them that just fit over the top, that might be easier. Or what about moving onto a trainer cup? Again the Avent Magic Cups are the best ones we tried.

Oh and he is also refusing to eat any finger foods on his own, or put his dummy back in etc. I know he can do it because he has done it a few times before.

Is it one of those things that just happenes one day or do I need to actively encourage and if so how.

He has a trainer cup and trainer bottle and he just will not use them. Hes on tommee tippee bottles but bought a trainer bottle that made no difference.

We tried loads of cups before we found one that ds got along with.
Don't know what else to say really.
Goodluck

If it's any consolation, my 18 month old DD will not hold her bottle either...she still has one bottle at breakfast and will not drink unless i am the one holding it. I refuse to be embarrassed however!

I can't remember when she started drinking from a beaker, but she will only drink water or juice from it. No milk at all. Ever. (Used to be only juice until we started varying the look of the beaker she drank it in...very strange child).

both my dd and ds never held their own bottles but they were off bottles by 14 months and 10 1/2 months repectively. They both used a lidded beaker from 6/7 months though (just water to start with) and ended up with milk out of a lidded cup when the bottles stopped which they held themselves. I wouldnt have wanted my lo's to hold their own bottles as it takes the control away and they would end up taking the bottle out and shaking it about the place.
