Help - first few weeks of weaning, a bit of advice please

DD is 6 mo at end of week, got some baby rice, got a grinder, got some root vegetables

I know you should follow a baby's pace, but I'm finding the books a bit vague.

What's the general advice on when/how to progress with things, so i can get a bit prepared (shopping/cooking-wise and mentally!). I'm away from home at the moment, so need to be a bit more organised and less go-with-the-flow.

e.g Week 1 - just baby rice
Week 2 - introduce one/two? veg

Help!

and yeah, by cooking, i mean nothing more complicated than what you're having. steamed veg is what we started dd off on, we did finger foods but if you want to mash with a fork, do so. at 6 months they simply do not need food to be pureed. (they likely did at 4 mos, though, which is why everyone still does it. weird, though, it's not like you'd make your kid sit down if he was capable of walking).

I see whatchermean. I have actually avoided buying any childcare books, apart from the left at home recipe book, and now I am free of HV obligations until I get back later this year, so I'm free to do what I want any old time, it seems.

do have a look at the blw website, even if you don't go down that route it is still a confidence-builder (i hope. i wrote it).

sorry people, I have just briefly scanned the other weaning questions and just wanted to ask a little one myself, sorry if I am repeating previously asked questions.....

I have been weaning my little one for a week now (he is nearly 24 weeks/6mths). For the first 3 days I gave him baby rice, then the 4th day I tried carrot puree, he was not impressed and tbh, the majority of it went down his bib, in his hair, eye, between his toes etc... so, I thought maybe it was too much too soon. The next day I went back to baby rice but mixed some mashed banana with it... he gulped it down as if I'd been starving him for weeks!! So, at the advice of the hv, I gave him pureed parsnip to try today... he had nearly the whole ice cube portion, but suddenly gagged, looked like he was choking and threw up what seemed to be the entire amount he had just eaten ( Does this mean he wasn't ready for pureed veg? Or, could he have actually choked - it didn't seem lumpy at all? Or could he just dislike parsnip - any advice would be appreciated. My HV told me he was at an age/size where he should be able to skip baby rice and just have fruit, veg and yoghurts etc... but after his display just now, I am so confused!

sometimes they're just sick - too much too fast, or it went down the wrong way, or they're just full.

dd still does this occasionally and she;s 10m

Thanks. I probably sound a little overprotective, but then, I guess we all are
Its so new to me, but I ma enjoying it, especially when my little one had banana and got really excited about it
