DD Refused Homemade Food...Help!

Hi Everyone,

My dd is 6 months old and has had solids for about 6 weeks now. She absolutely adores her food and gobbles it up. The problem is, I have a freezer full of home-made food that she absolutely refuses to touch. She will only eat jars. The purées aren't anything fancy, just simple starter foods (root vegetables, fruit etc) so I cannot understand why she won't accept them. She retches and spits it all back out. I know it's not the taste. I tried to give her home-made sweet potato which she refused so I offered a jar of sweet potato and she nearly finished the jar!

Any ideas how to re-introduce the purées? I was considering adding a small amount of baby rice just to give it a smoother, creamier consistency. Would this work?

Have you tried giving her your food out of an empty jar? I know it sounds a bit stupid, but I have had a similar problem with my DS (although he is a bit older), where he will eat bought food but refuse my nice home-cooked, but when I've fed him my food out of the empty container he has eaten it!!!

That's a great idea, but I've always poured the jar into one of her bowls. And I've offered the home-made in her bowls as well. But I'm willing to try anything!! I'll try a jar and see how she does.

How about mixing the bought food with your own with only a v small proportion of homemade food to start with and gradually increase it, iyswim? Maybe its because the bought food is so smooth in comparison and she just needs to get used to a coarser texture.

Agree with Lola - DS is a good eater but doesn't seem to like my efforts so I've mixed a cube or two in with a jar of baby food of similar type and he's gobbled the lot.

You ladies are brilliant!! I never would have thought of that. Can I still claim mummy brain-fog at 6 months?

I'll try it tomorrow and see how she goes. x
