Did you feel better after weaning from BF?

Interested in those who BF for an extended period - did you feel better, had more energy, did libido increase, after you weaned? I'm considering weaning my 18 month old. I don't want to wean but I'm also just tired, have zero libido and always hungry. Like a constant brain fog.

DS sleeps 11 hours a night so it's not sleep deprivation (which is why I'm interested more in responses from those who weaned toddlers rather than small babies).

We're down to morning, afternoon and evening BF, so BF itself is lovely and not a lot of effort. Just thinking maybe the hormones are keeping me more tired.

I was feeling like that and started taking an iron supplement; one a week/4w; 2x/week 4 weeks; then 3x p/w thereafter. Took about 4-6m and felt noticeably better. Take with citrus to increase absorption amd avoid calcium sources at the same time.

Weaning made absolutely no difference in my health. I was just as worn out after as before. If anything it got a bit worse because it was harder to keep my weight in check.

Are you having periods? There was a definite change in libido when my period returned, several months after ceasing breastfeeding. No noticeable impact on tiredness.

Are you taking supplements? I didn't feel any better, but it turned out my vit D was nonexistent because I'd stopped looking after myself. Breastfeeding over an extended period really depletes your vitamin stores.

@Zemu yes, my periods came back 3 months ago, around the time he finally night weaned for good. Other than the fact that the periods are horrendous now, I haven't noticed any changes. My libido and energy are still vow.

@Somnambule I actually recently had bloods done and they all came back fine, except a bit low on vit D so I'm taking supplements for that now

I felt very much the same, but I was very anaemic.

I weaned my second baby at 20 months hoping I would feel better straight away, and was very disappointed. I started to feel better when she was around 3, and I do regret weaning when I did - she wasn’t ready to stop and I wish I could have persevered for her.
