It has always been a struggle to make DS drink his milk but he has now pretty much dropped all the milk feeds apart from the morning one and then night time bottle - he won't really drink any between these two feeds. He has three meals a day and I am making sure he is eating lots of yogurt and cheese sauce etc to keep his calcium up but do you think this is ok, most of my friends babies are happily guzzling 3-4 milk feeds a day

hi kittypower, iirc, they need a minimum of 12oz per day but that includes all other diary products, and like you say you are making sure he has lots of yoghurt etc. FWIW DS2 is just over 6 months and has just dropped a feed so is now down down to 3 feeds per day - he is having about 18-21oz per day. Maybe your friend's babies are having the same amount of milk but split over more feeds?

My DD is nearly 11 months and dropped her daytime feed a while ago so only has the morning and evening ones. She used to guzzle them down in one but now plays around a lot and soen't usually finish them. Most of her 'baby friends around the same age are also just having the morning and evening ones. Just this morning I read in a couple of books that this is completely normal.

I thought it was 20oz under a year???

sophiewd · 16/06/2008 16:16

DD was like that as well and is fine.

LittleMissNorty · 16/06/2008 16:17

My DD dropped to 2 bottles around the same age - he'll be fine

Since stopping bfing 3 months ago, dd only has one bottle a day - at night. Refuses it at all other times. She is 11 months old now.
Just give lots of dairy.

Chopchopmissy · 16/06/2008 16:28

My DS has not drunk any milk since he was 10 months old. He seems fine on it and health professionals dont seem concerned.

megcleary · 16/06/2008 16:36

my dd appears to be on strike no food spoon or self feeding and about 16 oz a day had development check today hv said ignore it not to bother feeding her leave it there let her feed self

not sure what i think about this any opinions?

It is all fine - our 10 month old has milk in the morning and a porridge in the evening and sometimes joghurt during the day. here in Germany they say that is enough - and with 3 meals aswell you should be fine.

up to 1 year 20oz is recommended and after 1 year approx 12oz is recommended. This can be made up with milk on cereal, in foods, in cooking, dairy products, etc so they dont need to take as much (or any) as a drink).

My ds went to 2 bottles around 10 1/2 months as well but he also ate cheese, yoghurts, etc which made up the rest of his intake.

My daugher is 10 months and only has two bottles a day, but I give her 4oz of formula on her weetabix or readybrek for her breakfast.

In total she has an 8oz at 7, 4oz on brekkie and 7oz in the evening so nearly at the 20oz recommended.

If he's getting plenty of dairy he will be fine!
