Weaning causing Unsettled Baby

Just wondering if anyone has experience with their LO being severely unsettled during the weaning process?

It’s my 2nd child and wow, totally different in all aspects to my first. So far he has been massively unsettled after broccoli, spinach, eggs and cows milk.
He’s on standard formula, we suspected CMPA early on but ruled that out. I avoided cows milk initially with weaning and used formula instead. Decided to add some whole cows milk into his dinner (an item he’s had most frequently and no issues) to cool it down. Within 1-2 hours he was massively distressed and had 3 explosive nappies. 24 hours later I noticed a rash all over his back and tummy. HV said unlikely cows milk as he’s on cows milk formula?

We done mashed / finger foods / blw with my DC1 and used a lot of Greek yogurt, soft cheese, cheese and milk products and I made everything fresh. With DC2, any finger food has resulted in servere gagging (not the main issue). I manage to remain calm and let him get it up, but it making me really stressed. So far DC2 safe foods to eat / not be unsettled with are - Weetabix, sweet potato, avocado, butternut squash, steamed apple, strawberries and blueberries. He has majorly gagged on toast, banana, a biscotti biscuit, rice wafer, egg. Sometimes taking 4-5 go’s to clear it.

does anyone have advice or experienced issues like this? And TIA for any replies!

I understand that the gagging is scary.
While I wouldn’t normally go for ultra processed foods, what about the things that are like very mildly flavoured Wotsits. Sorry I don’t know the proper name but there are lots of them in the baby food aisle.
They soften easily and I think can be a good introduction to finger foods.

If broccoli disagrees with him, just leave it out. If you really want him to have it, mix a small amount into mashed potatoes, parsnips etc.

The explosive nappies and rash after cows milk. I don’t know. It seems like a strong coincidence. I understand that you don’t want to repeat the experiment.
I am not dissing your health visitor, but they are not dieticians. (Neither am I) But I am a strong believer in trusting your gut instincts. If you think it was that, then you are very likely right imo.

@Marcipix thanks for replying. We have been successful with the larger melty stick type crisps. My HV suggested still sticking with steamed, soft veggies as a finger food rather than firmer things… I just need to get over the fright from the last gagging episode.

Similar nappies after egg too (but no rash) and distressing cries for quite a while last night. I’m unsure if he just has a very sensitive tummy. Keeping a food diary at the moment. Weaning was honestly so easy with my first, I wasn’t expecting all these issues at all!
