6 month old weaning

My baby turned 6 months about 10 days ago. We are on day 4 of trying to give her purées. We have tried a green puree (veggies), 3 types of baby cereal and a carrot puree. The carrot she took to a little better. I know they only need tiny amounts at first but this morning I tried her with her Kendamil baby porridge and mushed up blueberries and she did not want it at all. She tends to have a tiny spoon which she pushes around her mouth a bit (I think a tiny bit goes in) then she sticks her thumb in (a comfort thing she does if she’s tired of comforting herself). She had a bottle about 2 hours before but doesn’t want her bottle either since we tried the porridge this morning. I’m worried she’s not going to eat! Any tips?! Xx

It's easy to say, but try not to worry! Think of her learning to eat as a massive journey she's going on over the next few months :) Her tummy will also need to do a lot of adjusting to handling solids, so don't feel you need to rush. I have two and both barely ate anything till 9 months. Babies will also have periods where they eat loads, and then go off food (e.g., when teething badly). Milk will be their main source of nutrition until 12 months. The NHS weaning info is really handy. You could give her some sticks of food to play with alongside the purees (e.g., very soft boiled carrot, but NHS weaning info has loads of ideas) to get her used to picking up food herself and feeding herself.

She’s 4 days in! Probably tired? Try a different time of day. She’s only 6m it’s going to take longer than a few days for her to get the hang of it, milk is the main source of food for now she’s just exploring food I wouldn’t worry keep offering and exposing

You’ve barely started, relax! It will take weeks, months for them to learn to chew and swallow, and understand food. Mine has only started eating consistently since she was 13 months. It much better to offer proper food served appropriately (used the solid start app), then purée. And that kendamil stuff / baby porridge is full of rubbish; just use normal porridge oats

Sounds perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. The best price of advice o got on MN about LO’s and food is that it’s your job to provide the food, it’s up to them if they eat ot or not. Sometimes they just might not be hungry.

Is she any better wirh finger foods? My DC2 hated purées and being spoon fed.
