Hello,

My 6 and a half month old has been taking solid food successfully for about 4 weeks and is really keen to hold her own finger food. I have been giving her fingers of toast, banana, peach and tonight kiwi. She loves the independence but I am so scared of her choking. Whenever she swallows any she ends up being sick. Will this get better? I want to keep giving her bits but it really fightens me.

Any advice please?

Oh she is sick cos she gets it stuck and it makes her gag. (didn't know if that was evident)!

That is how babies avoid choking, by gagging and then sicking to clear the blockage.

When my DCs were tiny the HV got the PN group together for a First Aid awareness session. Ask your HV for something similar to give you confidence ?

Good luck.
