BLW and highchair question???

Can you use a highchair for BLW if your baby can't sit unsupported yet? My lo is 6 and a half months but is a bit behind at not being able to sit himself yet, although has good neck control. I was wanting to try blw as meals are becoming a screaming match if he's not attempting to feed himself. I've only just found about blw today and the highchair seems to be a bit of an essential and how do you do it if you don't use a highchair?

Could you use one of these seats

Hi BeachBuni
I am in the same boat as you - my ds has just turned 6 months and have started BLW. I sit him on my lap and It seems more supported that the highchair and he seems to like grabbing things out of my plate. I think at this age its all about exploring and if a bit goes in that is great!

sitting unsupported ie alone on the floor is very different to sitting supported in a highchair - have you tried one?
the ones where they are really upright (like the Ikea Antilop) are better than the recliney ones.

Ah, looks like a snazzy bumbo. The only thing is it seems a bit pricey for something I would only use for as few weeks (just quit work to become sahm and having to look after the pennies)

I did try him last week mrsb as it has a five point harness and he was slumping a bit but maybe give him another go. If he's sitting fairly straight and seems supported enough is it ok to use then? Ebm - tried the lap and most of food ends up on me!!

I found the five-point harnesses did more harm than good - kept dd's shoulders pinned to the back of the chair rtaher than letting her reach out for the food. 3-point if any (though will revise this if she starts tryng to escape)

It does have one of those cushions that kind of cradle them a bit. I'm so glad to hear my ds isn't the only one not sitting yet - was beginning to worry a bit.

My DS (9 months on Friday) couldn't sit in his sister's old highchair but we bought an Ikea Antilop and he was fine in it. They support the baby around the middle - couldn't recommend it highly enough.
