Struggling to get ds to take his milk??

My ds is 22 weeks old, and from 18 weeks until we starting weaning at 20 weeks he became really difficult to get him to take his milk. He would arch his back and scream after only a few ozs, we would only get him to finish it laying flat!!
The health vistor suggested trying a hypo allegenic milk, which made it worse so we stopped that, so we tried solids and things improved dramatically, and he started drinking and taking abit of baby rice or a cube of fruit or veg no probs.

We having been progressing slowly with the food just trying different fruits and veg and increasing his babyrice at tea time to get more in him, but now it is becoming very difficult to get him to take his milk again apart from his first feed and his dream feed!

Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions as to why, because other than that he is a happy contented baby who sleeps fantastically most nights????

how much milk does he take altogether at first feed and dream feed? any chance he is having enough at these feeds?

DS went through similar at this age, but was BF, so I didn't have a clue how much he was getting in him - I think the world became too interesting to waste time feeding, but the arching of the back of your DS suggests this isn't the case - have you tried another milk make - not the hypo allergenic, just another brand?

if nappies are still nice and wet and no difference in poo (except the smelly puree variety now of course ) then maybe he's taking as much as he needs with the two feeds? if you've not tried him on yogurts yet, maybe give these a go to get more calcium in him if that's your worry?

His first feed he takes about 8oz, the last is only 4oz.

All his feed i pretty much manage to get it into him eventually!

His 11am feed and solids today was a nightmare. I always give him most of his milk first before solids. After an oz he was screaming, i tried a couple of different places to feed and it made no difference. So i tried the solids, which was babyrice and courgette. He had a bit before getting upset again. I manage to get most of the solids down, and eventually the bottle by having him lay on the floor watching the tv!!!

Why is he getting this way? He is on Aptamil 1 still, if i try a change of milk what should i try??

hi my little girl is seven months and still doesnt drink much milk. she would have about an oz and then just push it out with her tongue. It was really frustrating and i really worried she wasnt drinking enough. When i started her on solids just like you it improved for a while but then got worse. You just have to be patient and try and let them tell you what they want. Mine is now in a fairly gud routine of milk 7oz at 6am back to sleep for an hour or so then breakfast at 7.30 lunch 11.30 try her with sum milk and finger snacks at 3 tea at 5 then bath n bed for seven dream feed bout 9. my trick is wait till there tired and hungry.if youre worried bout nutrition sneak lots of calcium in by grating sum cheese in purees, giving yogurts, milk in cereal etc. stick with it. GOOD LUCK!! ( shes on sma gold, didnt drink aptamil)
