Am I over-feeding my baby? Honest opinions needed!

I'm starting to really worry that I'm overfeeding my 7.5 month old. I started weaning just shy of 6 months and worked up quite quickly to 3 meals a day. He's formula fed and before weaning had 5 x 7oz bottles a day. He still has 4 x 7oz bottles a day which he usually finishes, and if not only leaves an ounce at most.
He eats a lot (at least I think it's a lot!) A good bowlful of main course plus pudding or savoury finger food. I'm making all his food myself and trying to give him a good balance of things. We're bringing him vegetarian so I'm making sure to include lots of protein and iron rich foods.
He is getting really chubby. At the last weigh in a couple of weeks ago he was 22lbs 4oz which puts him on the 91st centile. Pre-weaning he was between the 50th and 7ths.
He has only just started rolling and looks like he might crawl soon...I hope. He's always been a bit of a lazy baby, content just to sit and chew his hands, rather than move.

Sorry, am rambling now! Anyway, I am torn between "give him what he'll eat, it's all good food, his weight will level out when he starts getting mobile" and "you're feeding him too much, he's going to be an obese baby/child/man". My partner was a fat child and was horribly bullied at school and I don't want this for our son.
The HV says not to worry, watch portion size and he'll lose weight when he gets mobile. And to consider myself lucky that he likes his food and milk. But I'm still worried.

What do you think? Am I giving him too much?! Condeming him to a life of obesity? Honest opinions please, I can take it!

I think your HV is right. You'll probably be amazed by how much he slims down when he gets mobile. My ds did. He also hardly seems to eat at all now which makes me glad I let him be a human hoover when he was wee, lol!

My DS was massive at 12 months and was just like you describe. We laugh now as he has a rice cake in his hand in most of the pictures of him.

Now aged 4 he is really quite skinny but very healthy and active. Please try not to worry - I was told that you can't overfeed children at this age and think this is true as I struggle to get my DD to eat much at all.

As long as you keep on giving him good food, no rubbish (well, not much!!) he will be fine.

Also, my DS never crawled but did commado style instead - I think it was because he was so heavy. Now at mother and baby group, everytime there's a mum worried that her baby is fat, she gets sent over to me!!

My baby was enormously fat when he was 7 months and has slimmed down loads now he's moving around.

He was also hospitalised for a week when he was 9 months with bronchiolitis and the fact that he was such a tubby meant he didn't get dangerously thin. I honestly don't think you need to worry about babies - when they're still fat at 2 is time to worry but babies need fat.
