8 month old losing interest

Hi, I’m looking for advice / words of encouragement… my 8 month old has been weaning for 3 months and in the beginning was brilliant, loved pretty much everything that was offered. But now, she is fussy with the spoon and doesn’t seem impressed with a lot of the finger foods I offer. Some days are better than others, and there’s certain foods (like toast) which are always a crowd favourite. But I want to try her with a range of foods to avoid fussy eating and it’s disheartening when she refuses to eat or it goes on the floor.

I am also trying to remember that food before one is just for fun but it can feel like I am letting her down when we come away from a meal with barely anything eaten. Is it a phase? Do I need to just roll with it and relax?

Is she FF @Anny2020and if so, how much formula is she having in a day? Smile

Totally normal. She doesn't actually need food before 12 months as all her nutrients come from milk. Before 12 months it's more about exploring food she may be teething too so they go off food at that point even more

Most important is to relax - baby will pick up on your stress and not eat if you're too pushy, keep giving a variety of foods and model the correct way to eat them.
Have a look at the solid starts Instagram/app for ideas on how to get over picky eating.

It’s not true that she doesn’t need solids until one. The guidance was changed a while ago. So if you’re FFing you’re aiming for 450 mls or 15 Floz a day between 10 and 12 months.

This is why I was asking how much formula LO is having as it may be time to drop a bottle.

Thank you for your responses!
yes to FF - and I have thought about reducing milk feeds but now DD is being fussy with solids I don’t know if that would help, or just leave her hungry!

We are going through some teething at the moment so I may put it down to that - hopefully when the tooth appears she’ll get her love for food back.

i will look at solid starts too, I’ve already looked on there for tips on how to serve food so will see what they say on picky eating.

Thanks all!

Ok so if she’s teething, are you doing anything for pain relief like Dentinox gel or Ibruprofen?
