14 month old still not eating solids

My 14 month old boy is ebf and refusing solids. He's had a difficult start to life being poorly a lot from 3 months so the weaning stage was delayed. He started off ok trying some but he has refused all solids from 9 months and will only allow things to touch his lips. He refuses to open his mouth and blw is a fail also. He's a little delayed with his speech and isnt walking yet but is crwaling and pulling himself up. I have 3 older girls who were very picky eaters but would eat some things he just refuses to eat everything. HV says perceiver and im.trying but hes just not interested. He's underweight and so small for his age and a very unhappy baby too. Its becoming worrying and just wanted to know if any mums in similar boat. He's on wait list for dietician. Thank you.

Have you considered CMPA? It can make babies awful colicky and very unhappy/cry a lot. They don't have to display all the typical signs to suffer from it xx

He's not colicky and isnt upset hes just not very happy. Like very serious barely smiles. Would that affect him eating solids? I never had these issues with my daughters so its like being a new mum again and very worrying.

Has his digestion been tested? A friends kid had some tube put down his throat and they found something or other (too much acid?) spiking way more than normal that meant eating was painful.
My niece is autistic and refused to eat at a year - her digestive system was sluggish, her muscle tone was poor and she did not have the muscles to manoeuvre the food in her mouth.
So I’d be pushing for further investigation - could just be a bit of a delay but might be something more.

This must be so worrying for you. I would ask the HV for an urgent referral to SaLT so that they can rule out any physical cause in his mouth that would stop him from eating.

I would also have a read of this on Tongue Tie to see if you think he has any of the symptoms. Babies and infants with Tongue Tie can show a clear preference for milk as it’s just easier for them to get calories in.

Has the HV done his 12 month check yet and did she have any concerns?
