My child doesn't eat or try any food

Hi,

I have an 18 month old who is very fussy with eating. He goes to an amazing nursery that he lives but sadly doesn't provide food so I have to send lunches which consists of the 12month + meals which they struggle to feed him. He does not like to be fed. They only thing he eats is scrambled eggs, Waffles, fish fingers, bachelors cheese and Broccoli pasta, loves bananas and occasionally Strawberry and Blueberries. I always try to feed him when he is in a food mood. If he doesn't eat i take him away from the food to see if he gets hungry. I have moments of positivity and cook some nice food for him and try it as an add on to his safe food scrambled eggs but he just picks its up and looks at it in disgust or doesn't like the texture. He will end up throwing it on the floor. I am so anxious about going out with him, or taking him abroad for a first holiday. What am I doing wrong?

Could you make a homemade version of the pasta? Then you could maybe send that to nursery and slip other things over time (different veg / chicken / fish etc). Have you tried bread with stuff on it? My son would eat almost anything at that point if it was on toast / bread.

I would try and take the pressure off. If he throws stuff on the floor, that’s ok. If he just messes around with food, that's fine. Almost like the start of weaning again so that he has fun with food and hopefully re-sparks his interest. Apologies if you’ve already tried this

What are 12+ month meals?

Ready meals?

Just send in the food you know he likes.

Why make life hard?

Give him a multi vitamin each day and then just keep offering new foods next to safe ones.

So fish fingers, waffle and a few small pieces of broccoli. Keep offering the broccoli regularly next to food he likes.

Don't 'feed him', let him feed himself.

I’m sorry that you’re struggling @JPMS

Just wondering how much milk he has in 24 hours and which type of milk? Is he night weaned too?

What are 12m meals?

Does he eat home cooked food with you at meal times? Cook some easy meals like spaghetti bolognese, cottage pie, pasta with homemade tomato sauce, mild chilli and rice and all eat together, and add something on his plate that you know he’ll eat like waffle or a bit of banana. don’t give ready meals like the batchelor pasta, get him used to eating proper cooked meals.

For nursery will he eat little sandwiches or wraps for lunch that you could send with some fruit and cheese? Or cook a proper broccoli cheese pasta to send in.
