So my baby is 8 months and 1 week and we've been doing BLWing since 6 months. Baby absolutely loves feeding herself to the point where she doesn't like me spoon feeding her. Had a bit of a scary incident today with a banana, she bit off way too big a piece and gagged, I could see in her mouth and the piece was at her uvula area and it scared the crap out of me. She was silent and looked at me wide eyed like she was scared, I know you're not supposed to freak out but I can't lie I did a little bit.
She thankfully ended up resolving it herself and was fine. Apparently silent gagging is a thing?? I never knew this and freaked thinking she was choking. In future how do I differentiate between silent gagging and choking? She wasn't making any noise at all, exactly like how I'd imagine choking is. I still don't know how she managed to get it out from the back of her mouth and spit it out.
I gave her some scrambled egg for the first time before this incident, and she did well with pincer grasping the little pieces and eating them. Should I move onto smaller pieces now? She loves steak, I cut off a bit strip for her and she gnaws on it, but now she has two bottom teeth and one top. So she can rip pieces off. Should I start cutting it into smaller pieces too? As anyone is I'm terrified of choking, I'm still on edge after the banana incident earlier. Sorry for the long post and TIA
