Can I freeze cheese sauce?

Possibly dumb question but I quite fancied making some wee pots of cheese sauce to combine with various veggies (more in the hope of sneaking some more milk into her without her realising than anything...)

Will this work or will it be lumpy/separated/congealed/otherwise vile when thawed?

Anyone done it?

Thanks in advance for your great wisdom...

designerbaby, no need for little pots, get some ice cube trays, then when frozen, decant them into freezer bags. - Or little food bags, depending on how old your LO is, then you can just freeze them in portion sizes.

Definitely do it, makes it so much easier. Agree with the ice cube tray.

Try mixing it with chopped spinach too - lovely

NotABanana · 17/05/2008 19:30

Yes. Freeze it in ice cubes and then you can add one or two to anything you want.

I know... but I LIKE the little pots... gives me enormous satisfaction seeing little multicoloured rows in our freezer, but then admittedly I'm a bit sad/OCD...

There is also the fact that I'm not at all sure about the hygiene levels in our freezer DH is South African and has some very strange/random meat products in there...

Ta for the tips though all... spinach sounds especially good - full of iron, right? Maybe it'll make DD slightly less pale!?

CAn I have the recipe for this freezable cheese sauce please? I made a load of cauliflower puree for DS but he won't eat it, but am thinkning maybe I can turn it into a more palatable cauliflower cheese thing...?

designerbaby · 20/05/2008 19:23

HI smiling,
I'm going to make the cheese sauce that's in the Annabel Karmel book - it's essentially half the cauliflower cheese recipe, but I'll keep it separate so I can use it for a variety of things. But tbh it looks exactly like any other cheese sauce recipe - I'm just using it as it's to hand...

I'll let you know how it goes before posting it as a recommendation though - it might be foul
