6 month old so constipated - how much water should they be having?

My six month old is EBF although we have tried weaning recently. But the tiniest amount of food (think four spoonsful of prune puree) blocks them up. How much water should they be drinking per day to avoid constipation please?

Thanks for asking - he’s much better now thank you! It seems his system has worked things out and we haven’t needed Movicol since I last posted. He’s just turned eight months and we do two meals a day - either breakfast or lunch and then dinner. He poos approx daily! We do sometimes get a bit of straining and grunting but he never screams in pain overnight like he used to!

In our case I really think water was the key to what was going on. We encourage it through the day now and always just before eating, while eating and after eating.

Sounds daft but I didn’t realise DS would need so much water despite being BF, and that he just needed practice to learn how to use a straw etc! I tried so many cups and beakers and if he couldn’t use it the first time I just thought, “he can’t use it.” I hope this helps someone else in the future 😊
