Help - transition from breast to cup

I've been offering water and milk in a Tum Tum straw cup to my LO since turning 6 months old. He's now almost 8 months and although he seems to like using the cup, he's still only actually drinking about half of the drink and spitting the rest out. We've managed to go a couple of days replacing 1 breastfeed in the day with the cup. But when I've tried replacing 2 breastfeeds during the day with the cup, he screams and cries until eventually I give in and breastfeed him. Am I giving in too soon? I'm using pumped breastmilk and still plan to pump, but I need him to take the cup more often for when I return to work. Any advice appreciated

He will still be breastfeeding for all sorts of reasons other than thirst or hunger. He'll want to reconnect, and for comfort and to help him fall asleep. You don't want to poison the cup and put him off, so if he's not feeling it I wouldn't worry. You could try giving him a cup to play with in the bath as then it doesn't matter if it goes everywhere while he's practising.

How much of the milk is he drinking?
