DS not wanted to eat anything today - should I be worried?

DS is 6mths and we've been weaning him for nearly 2 weeks. First few times just baby rice, then two meals of baby rice, then few days of just carrot puree then a day of butternut squash, then tried cauliflower (he didn't like that at all!), then a day of sweet potato (loved that), then today, tried broccoli and he puked it up - hated it. So I stopped and just gave him breast. Tried him with a plum baby pot of spinach, basil and something and he didn\t like that either, So I left it then offered him some more later for tea - still not having it. So offered some pear and he didn't want that either. Is this normal?

totally normal. DD has been on food strike for the last week! She is now back to almost normal. It seems to happen whenever she is about to get ill (fingers crossed that is not the case for your ds!)

As long as he is having normal amounts of breastmilk, I wouldn't worry. Is he otherwise okay? Happy? Normal nappies?

DD is 12mo and has days when she just wants bm, especially if it's hot weather.

Nah, he's fine and enjoying the best food of all.

SOH - he's got a bit of a cold actually so maybe that's putting him off a bit. He's been waking around 9pm again too for a feed (grrr) - hope this is just a phase!

Tis a phase, maybe a wee cold. Indulge his whim and put your feet up.

Holymoly321 · 15/05/2008 21:20

What should I offer him tommorrow? Carrot again as he did like it before?

Try carrot, sweet potato maybe. You may find that he likes sweet flavours more so perhaps introduce things like broccoli and cauliflower mixed with carrot/sweet potato/peppers and reduce the amount of sweet as time goes on. BM is very sweet and he'll be used to this.

Be led by him and don't worry if he says no to something. Try again another day.

I just gave finger foods and let dd be. She just helped herself from my plate usually. But I'm lax.

I've tried him on the carrot again today and he still is not interested. Think he may be teething a bit though as his hand is constantly in his mouth and he seems fretful - only the breast seems to calm him down. HAve tried finger foods but he hasn't quite 'clicked' that they can go in his mouth - he just looks at them then drops them on the floor. How long before I should be worried? I don't want to go too many days with him not having any solids - would feel like a terrible step backwards!

If he has a cold and teething he may have a sore throat? Have you tried colder smooth food? Is there a 6 month old baby friendly yoghurt out there? just a thought - as my youngest is in pre school I am a little out of touch on age for yoghurt and cows milk. Chilled highly pureed apple mixed with a little milk might appeal - sweet, smooth and cool?
Don?t worry about steps back. He won?t be thinking about what is steps forward or back so I would not worry either. It might feel a big deal to you, but really I don?t think your DS would see it as a problem to do it.
If finger foods are not working, don?t bother for now. There will come a time when he is having a little independant surge that finger food and self feeding is all he wants! For now, as long as he is getting enough fluid intake I would not stress about the solids too much.
I feel a little hypocritical saying that as I know I stressed a lot when both of mine went through similar phases. However, seeing them come out of them fine and well, one minute eating like horses and the next picking on only toast, I really would try to relax a little.
