Trouble weaning my 10 month old

My DD is 10 months and we are struggling with weaning. Started weaning from 6 months. She will either eat fully pureed or finger foods only. She will not eat pureed with bits in. But her finger food is taking forever. And we know we can jeep her on fully pureed forever. She will nibble one little piece then it takes her 5 minutes before nibbling another very tiny little piece. And on it goes. In between that she just plays with her food or slides it around her high chair. A good 98% of her finger food gets thrown away as she stops eating after 5 little tiny nibbles which takes 30-40 minutes. Her bowel movements are also still like milk poos. Hardly any solid poos as she's still very dependant on milk coz her eating solids seems so difficult. Can anyone think of anything to either speed this up or to get her to eat better in general.

Do you all sit down to eat together?

Dawnb1183 · 08/04/2025 11:57

Yes I makes no difference

My third was like this, first two kids loved BLW from the off and really took to weaning straight away at six months. Third baby I resorted to spoon feeding him for quite a while, he would much rather have purees and me feed it to him, well after his first birthday, our routine ended up me offering him BLW plate of dinner followed by a spoon fed bowl of puree to try and up his food intake as his poos were still milk poos. He’s almost 18 months now and eating much better, no longer being spoon fed, I just had to wait it out but he eventually caught up .

and I remember the saying that “food before 1 is just for fun”

Could it be that she’s just not hungry @Dawnb1183?

How much milk is she having? The recommended amount at this age is 450 ml Smile

She may be having too much milk. My first DS wasn’t fussed by food and looking back I think it was because he was having too much milk. My second DS loves his food and he is only on breastmilk and so must be more hungry for the food

That’s a bit outdated I think? The current recommendation is 450 ml/16 floz of formula a day of baby is FF. They changed it because people were taking the “food is for fun until they’re one” thing a bit too literally.

Between 10 and 12 months they should really be on two bottles, 3 at a push.
