Is this weaning?

I've noticed on my postnatal thread that a lot of mums are saying that they are waiting to wean until 6 months but are letting their LO suck on some carrot/mango/melon/tomato/bread etc.

To me that is weaning-surely weaning is the whole process of exposing your baby to different foods, tastes and textures not just when you start giving them 3 meals a day.

What do you define as weaning?

I would say that is weaning, for example in baby led weaning a lot of babies just suck and discard the food to begin with but they are still being weaned...

Then again if the babies are holding the food and bringing it to their mouths to suck themselves they could be ready for weaning anyway so it might not be an issue.

I thought tomato was a no-no to begin with though (can't remember why), as is gluten so bread probably not the best idea before 6 months
