Feeding solids to teething baby?

I started my almost 6 month DS on solids a few weeks ago, though so far he's only had baby rice, pear and carrot. He's really teething at mo and has lost his appetite for milk and it feels really wrong to be pressing solids on him at mo when he's so miserable. Is it OK to have a break for a bit while this tooth emerges - I can see it coming - or does that mess up the whole weaning thing?

Not at all, he is still young and food is more about fun, exploration and tastes at the moment than calories. If he has a sore mouth it's unlikely he'll want to eat much, even purees.

I would back off on the solids and just offer milk for now, you can always give him a large finger of cold carrot to chew on if his gums look sore. If he's very miserable you might want to give him some paracetamol or ibuprofen.

thanks Sidge, will prob hold off then - he's really miserable - hardly sleeping in day and at night only when dosed up with Calpol, and not feeding well at all. Will see how he is in a week or so! You are right though, it must surely be all about discovering new tastes at this point, and I don't want to put him off for life by forcing stuff down him.
