Hello. My DD seems to have stopped putting on weight over the last month. SHe is just starting on some solids - will this help her put on weight?

unlikely - how old is she?

their weight gain does slow down at 4m or so, so as long as she is happy, active, alert etc I wouldn't worry

My ds' weight gain slowed too when I put him on solids. He was still gaining but a lot lot lot slower. He only dropped one milk feed at first though and he was 23 weeks so was a lot more mobile and rolling/ trying to crawl all the time. Is she suddenly more active? Could explain the slow down in weight. They all slow down at some point though. It's not a bad thing. DS was putting on about 10 oz a week for the first 20 weeks, he needed to slow down!

no , less calories per oz than milk. Weight gain comes in fits and starts

Ok. She is nearly 5 months. She has been rolling over etc so could possibly count as more active? She is still being breastfed on demand and I only give really tiny amounts of solids - she is usually still almost full from her BF so she doesn't gobble too many solids as I know she is still very young.

She was 6lb 6oz at birth, and was gaining weight well - about 1lb every 2 weeks. However, she was 12.5 a month ago and is now 12.10 so only 5oz in nearly a month.

Health visitor was really rushing me when we were last there, so wouldnt really answer my questions and just told me to come back in a month. Don't really want to leave it that long.

The other thing - I don't know if this is conected but she is pretty miserable ALOT of the time recently. She screamed where ever we go and won't go to anybody but me and winges constantly. She is fed on demand though? She is sick alot, but always has been, and gained weight fine before. I am rally surprised she has become such a cliny baby, as I have always let her be held by everybody, got her to play by herself in the day, she puts herself to sleep etc. I am a nursery nurse and I know how hard it is when babies are cliny so did everything I could think of to enourage her to go to other people etc but it hasn't worked at all.

Thanks for all the advice so far.

if she's not even 5m yet she doesn't really need solids at all and they certainly won't help her gain weight.

Although her weight gain has slowed she is still gaining - if she was the same weight or less then I'd be more concerned.

I'm not sure why she's grumpy though - it could be teeth so it's worth trying bonjela or similar to see if it makes a difference. DD also had awful sleep disruption around 4-5m and was grumpy and fractious because she wasn't napping enough - how's her sleep?
