Anyone any experience with Domperidone?

7.5 months into my breastfeeding journey and my supply has plummeted after my periods have come back. I’d like to keep at least 2 breast feeds per day going, and right now there is next to nothing coming out of me! Unfortunately my periods are all over the place and I’ve had 5/6 in 2 months.

Have tried power pumping, fennel and fenugreek supplementation, feeding more frequently, drinking lots of water… it’s still just drips.

I hear some doctors prescribe Domperidone to increase milk supply. Has anyone had any success from this? Or anything else?

I was offered it when DD1 was in NICU and declined because the evidence is rather inconclusive. It isn't licenced for use for breastfeeding, so many GPs won't prescribe without a supporting letter from eg. the infant feeding team or paeds.

Have you been in touch with an IBCLC? My understanding is that it would be quite uncommon for your supply to just drop if you've been successfully feeding for 7months+, but that around 6-8months there can be a lot of changes in terms of supply and demand. Might be worth talking to a specialist to see if there's anything else they can recommend? Do you follow Lucywebberfeedingsupport_ibclc on insta? She's really good with these sorts of questions and does virtual consultations if you don't live near her.

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely check her out. I’m pretty certain it’s just dropped because of my periods situation - haven’t really had a break from them in 2 months, and I hear that really impacts supply.

It might also be worth asking your GP about tranaxemic acid? My periods after DD1 were massively heavy - although they lasted the normal amount of time, i had huge bleeds that went through pads, tights, trousers in the space of 30mins. She prescribed the TXA and I only needed it for a couple of cycles before everything settled back down.

Oh I have never heard of this! That sounds like that could be a solution, I’ll ask the question. Thank you so much 😊

It didn’t do anything for me sadly!
