14month old completely gone off food. Help!

Hi all,

My 14month old little girl was previously an eating machine! 3 meals a day with healthy snacks in between since 6months, she took to food immediately. We would spoon feed her and lately she had been helping us along with finger foods however for the last 2 weeks every meal is a battle. She won't eat anything we spoon feed her so I changed her meals and cut them all up for her, she would pick at it but not eat too much. The only thing she eats is fruit and yoghurt aside from this she may have a chip some pasta and small bits of other foods (all things she can feed herself). She has always been on the 75th centile (getting her weighed again tomorrow) but I am beside myself with worry. Any tips or tricks/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Try to stop worrying (assuming she is reasonably well in herself). Kids at this age often change their eating habits and go through phases of seeming to eat almost nothing. The less stress you can generate about it the better. Keep offering healthy choices and smile sweetly when she doesn’t want it. Your job is to regularly offer food. You cannot make her eat it.

Normal, they can go off food for all diets if reasons, a big brain developer t keep, teething, too busy learning other skills etc it's totally fine if she's happy and active 😁

Thanks both! I really appreciate it. I had her weighed today and she was at 10.70kg a little bit below her growth line but not a centile so HV wasn't concerned. She was last weighed 3 months ago and was 10.12kg. I think I'm used to the weighings before they're 1 and there's always such a big increase in the KG but at least she is still tracking a similar line. Thanks again!

She sounds fine and normal! Get her involved in making food, edible sensory play and find some new fun foods to try.

Don't worry, every child does this! Unless she's lethargic, loses weight rapidly or refuses all methods of feeding, she's fine. Keep giving her food even if she's not fussed about eating it
